Hi

What stunning pictures. #1 is the best. Colour balance is absolutely spot on. What equipment/settings were used?

Cheers!

J

Thank you for your kind comments. Go to London 3 or 4 times a year from Cambridge where I live. Used a Canon 400D and havnt done any colour adjustments. Do some serious photography as part of my job as a self employed Graphic Designer with own company.

Here are two more pictures now I have managed to rotate them.

John

Well Done Passenger John for those rather excellent pictures.

As a Non-Londoner and a non-UK citizen What simply jumps out at me from these images is something which is of unimaginable value to anybody involved in Brand Marketing or Promotion of any form.

The set of pictures shout out loud and proud that this is L O N D O N without needing any other supporting props.

As a Graphic Designer,I hope you can see what I mean.

I am sure that your business spends many hours with clients as they attempt to devise and construct marketing strategies and slick "stuff" to get their brand or image out there in Marketing Parlance.

One must hope that somebody within TfL or the greater entity that is London can see the incredible positive portrayal of the LONDON image these Heritage Services are providing.

I recall posts on this board about a figure of £1 Million per anum to keep the two H routes in operation...if this figure is accurate then London inc is getting an absolute bargain in Publicity terms.

Well done again Passenger John,I rather suspect a couple of these pictures could well become "standard" Postcard Style shots on a truly unmistakeable design classic still fully functional after 40 years !

Whilst I heartily agree with all comments so far made here I cannot help do a quick nitpick ....

1 ... why spoil these 'ICONS' with the ugly advert frames , keep the smooth ever pleasing curvacious lines of the Routemaster as they should be and apply proper adverts which if carefully designed and applied could enhance them by reflecting on their long , efficient and hardworking lives now so sorely missed

2 .... the headlight wing panels are those that belong to the RMLs !!

3 .... to the best of my knowledge the MARSHALL refurbs were never fitted with ' buslane ' cameras so why the need for this on buses that don't work anywhere likely to have use for such fittings ?

4 ... the roof dome fitting as seen on RM1941 appears to be the same [ from the fotos ] as that used for the 'crystal eyes' installation on some RMLs when in service so surely something less intrusive could have been used if deemed to be that necessary.

I'm certainly no purist and easily see reality in this world but my argument is simply that are these Routemasters are supposed to be the ' Iconic Heritage ' buses of London so keep them as they were and should be to all who lived with and loved them .

Just to add , They all look very smart .
Must mention the adverts (front and side) on RM1941 LONDON PRIDE , can't help its very appropriate ! I know its a beer advert but clearly there is 'pride' in these buses as well , shame higher up people can't swallow some 'pride' and bring a few more RM/L's back where they belong and make a heritage route with a good ride that goes somewhere rather than what we have now.

ps We all know Al's views on advert frames but even Al must admit that the Fuller pride ad does look nice on the side of an RM ! I want one please !!!!!

Mark ,

Thanks for the notes, I agree with you the ads do look very good but if carefully & tastefully applied as ' proper RM ' ads then the overall effect will enhance the buses appearance ........ that which gave us the adoration of these icons we all know and love. Why not go even further and apply ' period ' relevant ads as seen on some of the Corgi bus models , one or 2 RMs with such ads applied would surely add to the flavour of them being ' HERIITAGE ' buses .

Go further still , have the correct period uniforms made and used and for the conductor have them use the previous replacement for the Gibson machine so it issues a proper ticket and still gives the same necessary ticket & monies info . Make thses buses stand out in the crowd as they do anyway but giving them an addtional edge will drawn more patronage I'm sure . Tourists and Routemasters are like the ' ENGLISH CREAM TEA ' they naturally belong together so by enhancing the use + appearance of these buses that will add to their use even more than that of today . Once and if the 9 route is given the injection of life it so richly deserves for tourists then the difference in their use will be there .

On the subject of uniform there is a small market there for correct original London Transport style uniform , if made available to the enthusiasts as well as seen on the HRs I for one would happlily buy and use it when driving my bus so would several others !!
