Hello all, was thinking earlier today with the rally season and the weather improving soon. Does anyone have a suggestion of any journey planners websites that cater for Double deck buses.. I looked at a few sites, but they seem to cater for the car user. As we all know when the road altas book is published at the beginning of the year it can sometimes already be out of date with one way street etc.
Thank you in advance as always

For a map try

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Close-up-Truckers-Atlas-Britain-Atlases/dp/0749549874

For satnav data try

http://www.lowbridges.com/?gclid=CKTFxerR6pgCFQ4yQgodSBkV1A

Neither of these is a complete solution in itself but both can help plan a suitable route.

Low Bridge Atlas

In my pre sat nav lorry driving days the low bridge atlas was essential standard issue (as it ought to be in a double deck bus cab) - you don't want to come up against a low bridge in the first place as there isn't always the room to turn a 38 tonner or Routemaster around, especially when the world and his wife are behind you and more often than not a very long detour to get around it.

Thank you for the positive replies to this. I quite agree easy doing a three point turn in your little family runabout, but doing a fifty point turn with loads of blind spots and a tall back back behind you, no fun. I am tempted with a 'sat nav' but i really don't do a high enough yearly mileage to get one as most roads i go on i know nowadays. Its just the rare occasion of doing a longer distance out of London in the old girl, peace of mind that has been said.
Talking of which, the fact that bridges and tunnels are displayed in feet and inches. Whilst petrol stations are in metres, now thats very annoying..

Truckers Atlas

First posting, so here goes!

We always have a trucker's low bridge atlas on our buses, they are invaluable, and as has been said before, no bus should be without.

However, Google Earth is also a good tool for planning your journey. In many cases, particularly urban areas, you can identify road markings, bus stops and stands, turning opportunities.....and many places you wouldn't want to go!

.. I admit it, I was that anonymous poster .... It IS a cracking site Mark isn't it - hours of fun. Although it's not a bird's eye view, you can see PVS at http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=carlton&countryCode=GB#map=53.58855,-1.43264|19|32&bd=useful_information&loc=GB:53.58702:-1.44924:14|carlton|Carlton,%20Barnsley,%20South%20Yorkshire,%20England,%20S71%203 and Victoria Bus Station is at http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=victoria+bus+station&countryCode=GB#map=51.4961,-0.14361|20|256&be=12472215|West&bd=useful_information&loc=GB:51.49625:-0.14392:17|victoria%20station|Victoria%20Station . You can take the street names off by clicking on the menu and look at the places from north, south, east and west by clicking on the arrows.

Hello Brian, indeed it. I've nearly run out of places to look up! Although as some will agree no doubt it's a nice little tool for burglars as well? As i saw the local news here in London during the week reporting on the fact that Google are in the process of creating one that is on street level. They say faces and number plates will be pixellated out, but your still know that Mr F Bloggs of Blogg Road, Bloggville has a rare Rolls Royce sitting on his driveway. Food for thought that.
