Hi Karl.

The current owner of RML2528 is not a member of the Routemaster Association. When you get a bus the Association is a good source of technicial and spares help and the members get a good discount on spares.

If the accumlators need replacing, budgetfor around £1000. The hand brake ratchet needs to be looked at as a lot of late service buses need theirs replacing, cost around £500.

Engine mounting rubbers and B frame rubbers need checking as well. Allow £500 if they need replacing.

Please advise where you are based so other members can also advise you. Have you anywhere to store the vehicle?. Allow £100 a month depending on location.

The "DOC" would be a good investment to look over the vehicle and advise on the condition and what may need doing to the vehicle.

Lots of things to do and a lot to think about.

Keep us informed.

Hi Karl,
Sounds like the bus you're looking at is one of my RML2391's Ex Tottenham garage route 73 sisters' . It is said they were looked after quite well. David has made some very good points about the mechanics , quite often the accumilaters are a problem . It would be sensible to get 'Colin the doc' to take a look (Ex Tottenham fitter) he would have worked on 2528.
Would be nice to park 2391 next to 2528 for some snaps ! Do you know if 2528 still has her route 73 destination blinds in ? If your anywhere near Northampton , could arrange to show you around 2391 to point out whats what on a RML to give you some tips about them

Brian, David, Mark and others.

Thanks for the info guys, most helpful. Storage wise I should be ok as my family's business has a big yard and sheds. I'm up in North Shropshire if any of you guys are around here? Not that near to Northampton Mark but when the time comes to pick a vehicle and I'm that way I'll drop on by if that's ok with you? Or any other of you obliging people for that matter?! Unfortunately the 73 blinds have been swiped. I want to have a look at some other routemasters for sale first to get a good comparison then will ask for some advise and go back and look round them with someone more savvy. May have another one to see in the pipeline!

Thanks again everyone and will keep you posted

You will find a freindly, sizeable and (sometimes) organised group of routemaster owners in the Shropshire/Cheshire/Wirral region, with more depending on how far North you want to travel....such as...
John Pryor
Graham Meadows
Kieran Redman
David Thrower
Kelvin Platt
Colin Tennant
myself and many others. We occasionally meet up with the buses around the region. Someone may be able to assist you with inspecting the bus, Graham Meadows would be a good start, he runs several. Try grahamsteph1011@hotmail.com

David

I am the seller of RML2528 and don't quite see the validity of your point about us not been 'members' of the society.

I trust you are not suggesting that the purchase of a bus from a non-member would mean the buyer getting a rubbish deal ?!?

Am amused that Steve suggests Graham Meadows may help Karl with his purchase.

He drove the thing back from London for me !

Hi Steve M.

I am not suggesting anything just pointing out to a new possible buyer that if he joins the Association, they can take advantage of a magazine, techinical help and cheaper spare parts. The Association also has the RM drawings to use for repairs, wiring diagrams etc. This help is generally not available outside of the association.

There is also a very good magazine and parts catalogue which come part of the Association membership.

I think that Karl will be looking at several buses there is a good number on the market including AEC, Scania, Cummins and Iveco engined buses.Any bus buyer will make up their own minds up on which bus to choose and then pay their money. Steve it makes no difference of you are a member of the Association or not, I was mearly saying that the club has no record of the bus on its records so i could not offer any help to him.

Steve please feel free to forward any details you have so I can keep the records up to date.

David
