Hi all

Can someone please tell me what size fanbelt I need for my IVECO RML. Mine is still operational but has split so it's only a matter of time before it breaks so I want to fit a new one before I take my bus out again.

Also is there a certain tension required or should I just position the alternator back to it's position before I loosened it?

Thanks in advance guys.

Chris

Hi

I don't know which belt size you need - suggest you contact Iveco for that info as it is specific to the engine, not the bus.

But, you should not adjust the alternator to the old position on fitting a new belt. Firstly, you would probably not be able to because of the stretching of the old belt and secondly, if you were able to, the belt would be too tight causing premature bearing wear in the alternator and idler pulleys, etc.

The rule of thumb when fitting a new belt is to adjust it initially so that there is about 1" of movement possible on its longest length (tested by pushing on the widest surface of the belt). Then, after about 1,000 miles, adjust again as the new belt will have stretched a little.

Contact MAIN IVECO engine agents in SOUTHAMPTON and quote the engine number to them , the engine is a modified MARINE DEISEL and such poarts are available without problems, alternatively contact nearest ''SERCKS'' branch as they are as good as you can get for such help.

If the IVECO is similar to the CUMMINS 'C' engines then fan belt tension is automatic via tensioner attached to engine block, it is on occasion that this tensioner must be changed due to wear to keep belts correct.

Why not just take the old belt off and take it to a motor factor? they will either read the belt size off it or measure it for you and order a replacement.

Hi all

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you on this but it's taken a while to source the replacement.

I thought I would let you know so if any other IVECO buses need a new belt here are the details.

As there is a double pulley the old belt was wide enough to cover both with cogs sitting in each respective groove. I approached Northern Commercials in Brighouse who are IVECO truck but they had never seen this type of belt and passed me onto IVECO Industrial at Winsford (01606 541156 Andy Marriot) who knew exactly what I was describing but said that this type of belt is not made anymore. They suggested fitting 2 belts to run side by side and gave me a reference 6237ESC which can be bought from any motor factor.

I bought 2 of said belts from my local motor factor. The packaging states the manufacturer as Gates and the size as AVx10 x 1425La. The reference is 6237ESC and the description "Bandless Moulded Cog" the cost was about £10 each.

They are now fitted and Jean is purring like a goodun'

As always, thanks for all your help guys.

Chris
