For the record, I didn't think this was going to win when I made it, and I still don't. I made it when Todd was saying that he didn't have any entries and that if I was the only one to enter, I'd win. I was hoping I would be the only one to enter, and I wasn't, so I fully expect to lose. In fact, the only reason I'm letting Todd put it on the list is because he and Syrgot from the Weekly Poll forums insisted. They said they liked it. I don't. From what I've heard so far of the other entrants, I'm willing to say that the others are much better and more deserving of winning than I am. I already have a bass (It's a Fender Squier) so I don't need another one right now. I barely even know how to play it.
Anyway, Across The Finger Lickin' Good Universe is a mash of The Beatles - Across The Universe and The Beastie Boys - Finger Lickin' Good. I like The Beatles a lot. They're my favorite band. On the other hand, I think I heard a Beastie Boys song once and hated it. I've never heard Finger Lickin' Good. What I did was I went to some lyrics website and searched for Beastie Boys songs, and I randomly picked one. Then I plugged a microphone into my computer (the only one in the house is built into a computer monitor, so I carried the whole thing upstairs to my room) and sang the words to Finger Lickin' Good to the tune of Across The Universe. That's it. No instruments. Just half-assed, no-effort-here singing. The lyrics didn't even remotely line up with the tune. I can usually sing much better, but in this case it didn't matter how well I sang because I was going to lose if there were any other entrants anyway.
About "Yauch": The lyrics contained the word "Yauch". I don't know if this is a name or a place or just a typo in the lyrics or whatever. Whatever it is, I have no idea how to pronounce it. So I took a guess. Don't laugh at me.
The mash is 34 seconds long. I don't know if Todd's going to cut off 4 seconds or whatever, and I don't care. All I know is it's very low sound quality (32 Kbps) because my only hosting choice was 250Free.com and I'm limited to 250 MB of bandwidth per month. So only the first approximately 1700 people are even going to get to hear it, unless someone else wants to host it for me.
That sounds awesome! I am always fascinated by people doing covers of songs they don't like - they have more of a reason to improve the tune, rather than just copy.
True, you probably won't win, but everybody will have to come to terms with your track.
