Oh, but we're all damaged in the most interesting ways, aren't we? To think of the unbearable boredom of being normal... I pity anyone that might not have any damage, and therefore no particular tastes as well.

Whatever affects a person's emotional or psychological development inevitably reveals itself more strongly in sex than anywhere else. It’s the one place where all damage or difference shows itself, however small a part of you it normally is. Sadism, masochism, submission or dominance might not be a visible part of your personality all day at work, with friends, or anywhere else, but suddenly you get turned on and there it is.

I think sex is the deepest, most primitive part of us, and therefore the foundation of our minds, so whatever affects us affects sex more than any other part of us. And I for one am thankful that I have these differences and have looked introspectively and questioned my desires enough to locate and identify them, because the unexamined life is not worth living… nor is a completely normal one.
