I compare it against my home roasted coffee. r/o

I know when a bean is burned and when it is roasted properly.

Starbucks roasts their beans for consistency across all of the stores around the country. Unfortunately, this means they roast for so long that what you taste is the flavor of the roast and not the bean. The oils that give a coffee bean it's flavor are roasted out of the bean and burn up on the surface.

Many of the local small coffee joints...

Know how to brew a cup of unburned java. Hit those peeps and campare side to side. SB's burns their coffee. Buy good coffee instead of trendy coffee and the palate will be pleased.

Plus the coffee at the smaller shops should be fresher r/o

any coffee that has been roasted more than seven days will begin to stale. I prefer to roast smaller batches a couple times a week. That way my coffee is never more than three days old.
