I would suggest researching the Bulger Brothers of Boston. One brother was a gangster, the other a politician. There are various threads on this site or you can go to:

Also, check out Paddy Whacked by T.J English. He goes into a lot of detail about the Irish gangster and Irish politician i.e the Kennedys aswell as the Bulgers. Black Mass is all about the Bulgers and is worth a read.
