What Doesn't Kill You

Saw 'What Doesn't Kill You' again the other night. Great film and far more authentic than 'the Departed'. Performance from the fella playing Brian Reilly is
pure quality and for showing the true reality of the daily grind of a life of crime I'm not sure I've seen a better movie. Mobsters don't look like Di Caprio and films like Goodfellas have too much 'look at us we're the wiseguys' bullshit to be a true reflection. The accents in 'What Doesn't Kill You' were authentic and the actors were local fellas which gave the film a gritty edge the Departed lacked. Cracked me up some of the scenes, know plenty like the Brian Reilly character.

Anyone know who the mob boss named Pat Kelly character is based on by the way if, as I assume, they've changed the names around? No way was it Whitey cos he was too small time but big enough to have some weight around Southie by the looks of it. Anyone who hasn't seen it though, make sure you do. Great mob movie. And if you ain't seen it Andy, bear this fella in mind for a part in Clan. He'd be great for a part in it. Blinding actor.

Mark Ruffalo might be a bit out of your price range...his next film he is co-staring with Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Martin Scorsese...just sayin

The reviewer on that link said that this must be the performance to catapult him

into the big time so I'm not surprised that it's made the likes of Scorsese sit up

and take notice. But hey, you never know, if he likes the script, why not. 'What

Doesn't Kill You' wasn't done on a blockbuster budget and even Brad Pitt done the

Rooney based traveller for Snatch so who knows? Could be worth a shot.

Anyhow, Andy you'll love this film, guarantee it. Here's a link to Amazon, you

can get it for under a fiver now but only in Region 1. It don't matter to me cos

my one plays anything you shove into it, even makes toast when I get my DVD

Player mixed up with the toaster on a Sunday morning.

But if you're strapped for cash cos of finance for Clan or whatever you can have

my copy when I get it back from my brother, no trouble. Just let me know. That

performance though, one of best, and funniest in any mob movie full stop.

There should be a link for it somewhere NJ, if not you can probably rent it

online for a few dollars or so for 48 Hours. If I can find a link I'll be sure to

post it up.

And Andy, sure things ain't got that bad for ya yet. Just realised what I

wrote. Times are hard but not that hard ay. Still, my offer stands if you

want me to send my copy your way if you can't get hold of one.
