hmm, do they taste different from ordinary clams?

they look like they have more meat to them.

I'm used to clam chowder, with a little sand mixed in.

tastes a bit like clams. sweet tender flesh. the small ones are eaten as sashimi. bigger ones like these just need steaming for a couple of minutes with some fresh green herb(s), eaten with lemon juice and melted butter whatever. the simpler the better.
