it's a delicacy here. the majority is farmed as stock is more or less depleted. i call it water snake so if you're squeamish over snakes in south east asia then eat the eel instead.

[i've got 3 different asparagus meals' mosaics to post tomorrow however i must warn you it's not diet friendly! haha... i will see to your other replies tomorrow. good night.]

german rye bread, marinated japanese daikon, shredded radish [yes, i used my cool simple japanese mandoline ]. it was a big lunch! plus a 6.8% dutch beer from the town of Haarlem.

PS Saara: also, i've got some Finn stuff to make you homesick just from seeing the pics! [probably tomorrow or the day after]

Mmm ... smoked eel! I've not seen it around here, but I've had it in Vancouver about 20 years ago. Sometimes I believe I'd eat smoked boot though.

Look forward to the pics from home!

20 years ago? wonder if it's still available now, farmed or wild.

Possibly, but not at the Seven Seas (Lonsdale) where I had it. The restaurant and the ship it was on is gone.

ah the Seven Seas..

it was condemned, it the poor leaky old boat.
too expensive to fix, so they towed it away, a few years ago.

now there are just tugboats next to the Quay.

but a huge new condo development is going in just east of there.
they are tearing down the old (abandoned) shipyards.

a new pier has been built, 200m east. just empty, so far.

i miss the view of downtown from the seabus. dayum...there's a crane in the foreground. 3 cruise ships in town today. http://www.northvancouver.com/webcams/cruisecam/index.php

here's another favourite cam of mine http://www.jericho.bc.ca/webcam/webcam.html
