finally found a Starbucks [i know i know...still, it's better than no coffee!]. we were walking around like zombies looking for real coffee for days. Chinese don't drink real coffee! Steve from Lincohnshire, a Brit whom we met at the guesthouse and ended up spending all our time in Tibet with, says the coffee shop wasn't there last year. he's a coffee nuts so we were all grateful to have real coffee.
one of the employees saw my food pics online and asked what we thought of their pastries. we spent average 10 euro on coffee alone everyday. the same employee asked why we came to Chengdu, i told her 'to eat and drink'. she covered her mouth while giggling and ran back behind the counter to tell all her colleagues. everyone giggled. huh?!
nice noodle soup! thick and oily broth. so spicy and Sichuan-y

Dutchie ate all the bits, licked the bowl dry too. i was full already half way through. from the start i said
'it tastes like crap',
'what?! it's nice.',
i mean it tastes LIKE crap, then i showed Dutchie the intestine bits. Dutchie:
i don't smell anything. well, he ate all those bits up happily.
see what i mean?
squid tentacles again
i like all transparent savoury parcels
typical Sichuan dinner: i appologise for the picture quality. they were taken in complete darkness! they have one dimly lit lightbulb inside, our table is on the sidewalk. the street light is so dim it's useless as a street light.
hou gou rou: i think it's pork belly but it's mostly pure fat. so much scallions! i think in this dish they are used as a vegetable. well, you know what, i hate scallions and i don't like eating big chunks of pure fat but this time i ate everything up.
egg and tomato soup: another local soup. so simple and delicious. the bowl is the size of a household kitchen sink! everywhere in asia they never give you a spoon to eat soup with. it's to be ladled into your rice bowl and you are to slurp it with the rice, that's why. rice is such a tasteless clever filler. the
stir fried cabbage was nice too.
