While the water streaming from the shower head above them had fallen like ice upon her skin, despite it being set at the hottest temperature, nothing else about that shower could be described as cold. The mirror suffered a much more intense fogging, and a few of the tiles had the unfortunate luck of being dislodged from the wall.
Eve had felt bad about it. Kade found it hilarious. "Don't worry about those," he had said through his chuckling. "Trust me, they've endured worse." The waggle of his eyebrows insinuated something that she wasn't sure she wanted to know, but she had a feeling it had to do with the long, deep scratch-like grooves in the tiles. Like something had clawed the hell out of them.
Of course, Kade made it simply too easy to forget all about a bunch of silly shower tiles. Ravaging from that man could take one's mind off of anything, no matter how important or life-altering.
It was close to an hour and a half later that the two emerged from the back of the house, cleaner and more sated than before. Eve had donned the bike shorts and Dale Jr t-shirt, the pink tee tied up into a knot above her navel, her damp, dark locks gathered into a black clip at the back of her head.
"Why must we do this now?" she asked, following the tall man dressed in all black, from his well-worn Wranglers to the sleeveless button-down shirt and the bandana on his head, out past the concrete slab of a patio. "'Tis the middle of the night." She reached out to grab his hand, planting her feet and forcing the big guy to pivot and face her, finding her with a sly grin set to her lips. "And I can think of far better ways to.. 'train'."
"I'm sure you can," Kade indulged her with an entirely-masculine smirk, giving her hand a slight tug to bring her tight against him. An arm wound around her back, and her entire body flushed from the surging heat coming off him surrounding her, making the dry temperature of the desert obsolete. "But I can promise you, with what we go over tonight, you'll be better able to defend yourself should anything go awry, and you certainly should be able to control your fire abilities. Plus, if you're a good little student," He dipped his head down to hers, his lips a hairsbreadth away from her ear, enough to tickle and make her shudder, "we can give the jacuzzi a whirl. Deal?"
Eve swallowed faintly, and could only nod.
Kade smirked, and let the brunette free, but only far enough to be able to wrap his hand around hers, leading her further away from the house. Likely, Eve suspected, to keep anything from getting set on fire that he might be attached to. At least in the desert, there was wide, open space. Nothing to truly harm, other than sand and the occasional desert foliage.
As they traveled farther into the desert, the brunette began to feel more nervous with every step. Kade wanted to show her what they could do. What she could do. She wasn't so sure she wanted to know, but if she remained ignorant, she might end up hurting someone, or worse, killing them. She didn't want to take that chance.
And that drew another curiosity into her head.
"Kade?"
He looked down at her. "Yeah?"
Dark eyes locked onto his blues, a slight sheen of apprehension on her face. She wasn't sure she wanted to know the answer now that she gotten the courage up to ask the question, but it was now or never, it seemed. "Have we ever.. killed?"
