"I'm sorry David. We don't have to talk about it now."
"It's okay. Already been brought up, anyways."
"No really we can talk about it later."
"Just give me a little while"
How could he tell her. The answer was right there on the tip of his tongue. It wasn't the most sensitive, and nurturing. It could probably rip Kaly in two. Perhaps even worse if he didn't handle this properly. There just seemed so few ways to say it. He had been confronted with this dilemma not too long ago. Same as Kalysto, plausibly sooner. He thought it over has she had. He'd wager for a great deal less taxing, and time spent on the matter. For what it was, and who he was. In his mind the matter was little more then a blink of an eye. Normally such things would roll, and tumble through his grey matter for days. This hadn't, other then the occasional thought of Kaly dealing with it. His mind was made up quick and easy. Perhaps that would be the best way to tell her. Like a band aid just do it.
"I don't care. I'm sorry, but I don't."
"What!.?"
Her eyes spoke volumes. She was shocked, and bewildered. Confusion surrounded the feelings of lost. Hurt slid in right next to betrayal. What? How could David not care. Him and Conner were once good friends. Everything that had happened. If he really was back. All the things it could mean for their family. The possibilities good, and bad alike this could bring. To not care was absurd.
"I don't care. He was dead to me, before he'd even died. Dead not too long after I came to the DWF. The same old Conner, jumping to conclusions. Stirring up a whole mess of drama. Just because I had talked to you. Creating truths in his head from rumors that didn't even exist. Slandering both yours and my name. With him 'dieing', I didn't care. He was already dead to me. Coming back, I still don't care. He's still dead to me. Your worried about us, and the family I know. After what happened, and what he did. As far as I'm concerned he has no rights. He has no rights to talk to me like he knows me. Like he's still alive. After almost.....almost ending you. He has no rights to see or think of you, as still alive. Joshua the same. He left this world at his own doing. The insanity he made in his own mind. To me he's a dead man with no rights, to a thing or feeling one."
He leaned back forward. His and Kalysto's eyes meeting under the shimmering moonlight. Both twinkled with tears. Kalysto from the words David was saying. David for what he must be making her feel right now. These were surely the last things she expected to hear. All she wanted to know if it was him or not. If David thought so anyways.
"With that though. I don't have the right to stop you from believing it's him. I don't have the right to stop you from seeking him out. If you think he deserves a chance with Joshua. The kid is your flesh and blood not mine. I don't have the right, even if I adopt him to say no. I hope it's clear I don't want none of it. Don't want to smell him with in miles of the house. Don't want you to see him, or for him to touch Joshua. If he has other plans? So be it, but if your wishes are the same of mine. Then I promise I'll do everything in my power to protect the family. Enlisting several ends he's never known."
Instinctively his arm went over her shoulder. Pulling her in, in a tight hug. Lips gracing the edge of her forehead. His eyes wetter, by simply seeing her's as so. His chin settling on top of her head. Too scared to keep looking into her eyes.
"Listen to me ramble though. I didn't even answer your question. It's him, he's really back."
"That was easy. How can you be so sure?"
He let roll first a soft chuckle. Thinking it over. It was just one of those 'just know', kind of deals. Certain he was though.
"Because only one person as ever been so masterful at blaming their problems on other people. Especially me."
