FWB 124 Trigger

I'm trying to figure out something about this trigger. When I'm about to fire the gun, if I take my finger off the trigger, it does not spring back to its original position (in other words, it does not give back the first stage, or "reset"). I'm going to assume either the safety spring isn't positioned correctly (one end of the spring is open & not flat. Looks like someone snipped it off with wire cutters, and THAT end is in the sear lever), or because I put some older Beeman white lube paste on the trigger sear, which is under tension from the safety spring? Or a combination of both? That old Beeman lube past is extremely thick now. Should I have left the sear dry? Or maybe use FWB grease? I also have some Maccari clear lube...should I use that?
ANY help is appreciated.
