Hi All,
Just thought I would post a few pics of my latest score. A BSA No.8 Aperture Sight. This one comes fitted with a six hole adjustable eyepiece by Parker Hale, although most had a plain eyepiece fitted as standard. These could be purchased in a variety of different sizes to suit all shooters. BSA also made a six hole eyepiece and sights fitted with this were designated the No.8a.
What is remarkable about this sight is its great condition. Originally first made in 1908, this sight was made until the late 1920's and a choice of four different heights of sight were available for fitting to different styles of stock. The sight was supplied with a shield shaped base plate which had two holes for secure fitting. The base plate also encloses a spring loaded impelled piston which provides constant tension on the main stem of the sight thus keeping it rigid when either closed or open.
A vernier scale can be seen on the front and side for windage and elevation respectively. The top of the stem has a finger screw for elevation, and there is a finger screw on the right hand side of the sight base for windage adjustments
Condition is great on this sight and it is hard to believe that it could be as much as 100 years old.
Here are the pics
