Response to A piece of beautiful Giradoni art up for auction


Consider that the world of gunsmiths (the highly skilled ones such as this fellow) was pretty small back then. Not only in the number of fine arms houses but the proximity. Even with the limited transportation of the day, you could easily hop the channel to visit another's establishment or examine guns purchased abroad. I can see gunsmiths borrowing ideas or designs from one another, especially if they were proven.
