If it was hot rodded it happened before I bought it a few years ago. The guy I bought it from never mentioned it being heated up.
It does have a heck of a hammer spring in it though (or maybe the valve spring is weak). In order to store it with a pump of air in it I have to unscrew and completely remove the hammer knob (big five ring style). Cocking it and riding down the hammer will put enough pressure on the valve stem to open the valve enough to lose the air. I tried riding the hammer down and then unscrewing the hammer a few turns at a time, but eventually I had to totally remove the hammer knob in order to store air in uncocked. And I wasn't about to leave sit around with the hammer cocked.
I gave up trying to store it with air in it as I was afraid I'd lose the hammer knob! LOL
I keep it lubed and shoot it every so often so maybe it won't need to have air in it all the time.
I plink, therefore I am.
