I don't see coaches telling players to not finish checks, and there isn't any reason why players shouldn't finish their checks. But they do need to avoid head contact. The focus is on head contact. But the short sighted view of fans who only see "big hits" being eliminated don't understand there is a good way to deliver a hit and a dangerous way.
And getting off the backs of enforcers isn't the answer. Getting rid of enforcers would be better. I am tired of staged fights between to talentless plugs, who are justified in their roles because someone feels they need them to "police themselves".
The sport is broken because players are asked to control their hits and try not to kill each other. I don't want the game of "2003" it wasn't that good. The game has made some great advances in the past few years and it has made some bad choices that need to be fixed.
If your version of hockey is one player violently hitting another player with little to know control, or concern for the consequences, then this game is probably going to pass you buy in the near future. A solid hit can be delivered in a controlled and safe manner.
