This is a copy of a "thread" that I just posted on the Oregon Live forum
I have been a Hawks fan / supporter / and overall "sports junkie" from the late 70's.
While the Blazers have certainly stepped up their play and their comebacks have been helped by the loud and boisterous crowds at the ISC, the "complete collapse" that the Hawks have performed is completely mind-boggling.
Oh well... just thought some might be interested in the viewpoints and opinions of a longtime Hawks fan who does NOT believe in conspiracies and who proudly does NOT wear rose-colored glasses.
30343. Hawks on the verge...

The worst label / name that an athlete can be called is fixer / cheater.
The second worst label / name an athlete can be called is a choker.
Folks ...there is no doubt that the Portland Winterhawks are on the verge of one of the biggest "choke" jobs in sports history. Forget about the WHL (that would be a given) ... the Hawks are on the verge of becoming a joke ... a punchline ... an adjective - they are on the verge of joining Bill Tilden (1927 Wimbledon), the Houston Oilers (1993 NFL Playoffs), Nick Anderson (1995 NBA Finals), and Greg Norman (1996 Masters) as the biggest "choke artists" in the history of sports.
Up 5-2 with 15 minutes to go last night, the Hawks went on a "choking spree" that a group of throat doctors who specialize in the Heimlich manuever could not have saved.
Let's take a look back at the carnage ... and count the chokes - please feel free to add to the list if I missed one or two (there were so many ...it was tough to keep track of)
1 - Brad Ross takes a bad / selfish penalty (completely away from the puck) - CHOKE
2- Carruth promptly lets in a 45 footer to Hrbas - CHOKE
3- Failure to clear the puck - DePape scores - CHOKE
4- Failure to call time-out after the Blazers fourth goal - CHOKE
5- Bad / Undiscipline penalty on Rattie (offensive zone draw) - CHOKE
6- Failure to clear the puck - Smith Scores - CHOKE
7- Failure to clear the puck leading to seventh goal - CHOKE
8 - Carruth getting beat again from 50 feet - CHOKE
Folks ... that's eight "choke jobs' in just 15 minutes of play - an absolute epic collapse
So many obvious questions - but the leading ones have to be ...
How / Why can a team with a fistfull of current and future professional hockey players (not to mention a coach with vast professional and international experience) collectively CHOKE in three straight games?
How / Why does a team that prides itself on poise and "professionalism" go "off the rails" and become "unhinged" so quickly .. as a collective group?
Can anyone (player, coach, owner) turn this group of CHOKERS around before Wednesday night?
Like I said in my opening, if the Hawks complete this epic "choke job", they will become a punchline and future adjective in the sportx lexicon.
After a sports team or individual blows a big series or game lead, the loser might just be told (and think to themselves) that they just "Hawked It"
