But still, these buildings don't spring up over night. Sask place was built to attract an NHL team, the thinking was that even if they didn't land one they'd still have the blades to fill it for 36 regular season and 2 playoff games a year. If it was only going to be a dub barn it would have probably been built alot smaller, it certainly wouldn't have been built to accommodate over 10 grand people and more after expansions.
Saskatoon wanted a big league arena to try to attract the NHL and to attract big time arena rock shows, at the time saskatchewan was largely a fly over province, big acts would hit the 'peg and then move on to alberta. Sask place was to help move saskatoon into the big time, which it has as it typically plays host to all but the very biggest of tours. In regards to sask place the blades have always just been an after thought, the powers that be knew that worst case scenario the blades would be there to help pay the utility bill.
