I did not and will not be renewing my season tickets this season, but it is not because I am making a stand or a statement.
I do agree with almost everything that has been said about Farwell in this thread. To say he has made tons of bad trades is kind of a ridiculous statement. He has made more great trades than really bad trades. Where they have failed is in the drafting. Farwell wasn't scouting nearly as much and put faith in his scouts who have failed him beyond belief. They have had a shakeup in the scouting department department, but one big name still remains... Colin Alexander! I personally think he is the bigger problem as he is the one who runs the draft. Don't get me wrong, Farwell is the one who hired Alexander and is the one who is fully responsible. Fact of the matter is the head of the scouting department is Alexander and that is the department that has failed us the most.
The thing about making a statement is that I would be losing hockey from my life. I love the sport far too much to just give it up at the thought I might be making a statement. Especially when I look at the franchise and see that the fan base is growing. I give a ton of credit to the front office, especially Colin Campbell, in the fact that they have been able to grow the fan base while the product on the ice has been sub par. Give aways, $2 Tuesdays, Season Ticket Holder Gifts are all things that have vastly improved or made a comeback since the losing has begun. If the on-ice product was ever really worth the price of admission, this franchise could really take off.
Guaranteed Farwell knows that he could make more money if the team was good. I don't think it isn't a "Commitment to winning" as much as a string of bad drafts that have brought change. There is talent in the younger guys and for once in a VERY long time I actually have confidence in our coaching staff. Only time will tell.
