How was erie today? Port colborne looked as if it was going to be amazing. I went out to bayfield and Grand bend and it sucked.. the wind was too much out of the west.

It was choppy till five when I had to leave for a meeting at our kids h.s.

September 20 2005, 8:12 PM

We checked out the Palmwood and two guys were riding micro small while at Area 51 at times the waves were building to chest high and better late in the afternoon. The chop was brutal though. I probably missed it at sunset when the I assume diminished.

Erie was on fire 3pm onward...

September 20 2005, 9:51 PM

I know you're trying to be being kind to all of the people who missed the late afternoon/evening session.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it. From 3pm onward the waves in front of and to the west of the red shack were consistent chest to head high and clean, and better on the sets. The at least 10 people on two predominant peaks in that zone, including Tyson, Vlad, Seabass, Rafiel, and myself were drooling when the sets would roll through because they were clean, steep and large. I witnessed many overhead drop-ins and some very big and beefy set waves being ridden that would steam roll through. That was on the outside... the inside was fast, glassy waist to chest perfection. Connect them both and it was magic. Sorry for the people who missed it.

P.S. Happy Birthday

Re: Erie was on fire 3pm onward...

Wow... well I guess now I know that there doesnt need to be much S in the wind for PC to get good. It was either W or NW between 6 am and 12pm. I know ideally you want some N in the wind for it to be offshore to clean it up, but I would have thought that 6 hours of that wind would kill the incoming swell. By 3, there was only 2 hours of WSW winds in the past 8 hours of otherwise NW and W winds. Looking at a map, it seems that W and NW are both sideshore at best. Obviously it makes waves though. Anybody with an explination/theory as to how this works? Is it just the waves from the other end of the lake finally making their way to the eastern shores of Erie?

Conditions changed quickly...

September 21 2005, 8:39 AM

at around 3pm. Rob and I had been there since around 7:30am and we had strong onshore conditions the entire day. It was still fun but disappointing given the forecast. After 3pm it was one of those sessions that you wonder if you're actually in a lake not an ocean.

Great Session

September 21 2005, 10:36 AM

Sorry to all those who missed yesterday's session. Mario and I got there around 4pm and the waves started picking up. I had a tough time paddling out but it was all worth it by the time I made it to the outside. I apologize if I was in anybody's way during my excursion to get out there (I got crunched a few times by waves that scared the crap out of me..haha). But needless to say it was probably the most fun I've had on the lakes yet! Cheers to all those that were out there. A lot of guys out there can really surf. I think Mario was able to take a few pics. I'll try to get hime to post them.

Cheers to all that were there and to all those that couldn't make it.

P.S. Happy B-Day Magilla!
