| Hello all! I'm a newbie to the Great Lakes (specifically Erie). I'm originally from New Jersey and I bodyboard fairly often, year round. So now I find myself in Erie, PA for educational purposes. I scanned the first few pages of the forum and found that someone had mentioned Presque Isle State Park as being a "spot." I checked it the other day and I would say it was a solid 3-4 ft, but ridiculously onshore. I'm impressed with the amount of enthusiasm out here. So, I'm wondering if anyone on the forum is from the Erie, PA area or if anyone knows any specifics on spots, swell direction, for this area. Well, I hope I get to talk to you all real soon. Adios

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum and especially to the Great Lakes scene. There are wave-riders of all types here. The vibe doesn't get any better than this.
I'm in Toronto, so with petrol prices being what they are these days, I don't get out to Erie much. But a lot of folks here are Erie locals, so I'm sure you'll make some great friends.
Once again, welcome and all the best.

You want to hook up with Robert Bennett in the Erie, Pa. area. He surfs Presque Isle State Park often and he loves to surf and is always looking for company in that area. There aren't a lot of surfers that ride there regularly.
In the summer the park service will only allow surfing at Beaches 1 and 11. They are afraid that a surfer will collide with the break walls at the other beaches. This is all about law suit concern.
I have never surfed at the point there but I here in the correct wind direction that it is fun surfing. There are many places throughout the Great Lakes that at the right time and wind direction it will make a surfer smile with memories of that special epic day. |
