I will be up at Sandbanks this weekend wether there are waves or not. Hopefully there will be some wind and waves, though.

If anyone from that area wants to stop by for a beveredge, I will be staying right by the beach and I'm driving a gold car with boards on the roof.

Maybe I'll see someone there!!

Out of season access

October 29 2005, 1:43 PM

Given that you guys surf Sandbanks in the late fall and winter, and the park is not officially open (season ended October 10), I guess they don't block the entrance to the park.

Is this true of all Ontario Provincial Parks? I'm thinking of heading to Long Point Provincial Park (Lake Erie) tomorrow, and I'm worried I won't be able to get in (it also offically closed on Oct 10).

Cheers,
Dan

They are sort of open. I had been to Sandbanks in the late fall before and had been able to get all the way into the park. Now only the day use areas are open, which led to hiking in anticipated "car camping" gear. I'm still really sore this morning from that. I'm really glad we managed to 4x4 around one of the barriers to get our gear out. We did get some waves on sunday, and I even took a friend out who's not a water person at all for a couple hours.
There's something kind of tranquil knowing you're the only people in the entire park.

Good weekend.

November 5 2005, 12:08 PM

oh crap yes it would be a death trap! 10 foot waves breaking in 18 inches of water over that limestone.. jeez I thought it looked too critical at 6 foot... maybe sooup harbour??

Soup Harbour

November 5 2005, 1:11 PM

When Rob and I hooked up with Ben we surfed West Point which was pretty sketchy but fun. Soup Harbour was small but super clean and on a big day I bet that place would be beautiful. Anyone of you guys ever get it on a big West?
