It looks like I may hit the lakes for the first time this
Friday (11/4). If the wind forecast holds true, (SWesterlies all day Thursday into Thursday night) will the dawn patrol be worth it on Friday am?
May take Friday off and drive the 7 and a half hours to surf Lake Erie. Will leave after work at 4pm and hit the road, putting me in the Buffalo area around 11pm or so. I'll probably bring an old school longboard, fun board, and a 6'4", two and half inches thick shortboard (thick enough/ buoyancy?), a guitar, Single Fin Yellow (awesome DVD), and an acoustic guitar. Just hope the wind cooperates.
Any advice on where to stay in the area would be appreciated. Anybody up for a dawn patrol Friday let me know. Thanks
Thanks for the info Frank re: the motel. Not sure where I'll crash tomorrow night on the drive up, but probably on the US side at a cheap hotel/motel. I plan on waking up early Friday am and check the Port Colborne area first thing. It looks like the swell should be holding up through Friday with SW to SSW. It's just me coming up. Thought about asking some buddies but I like to explore new places on my own and not have to compromise with other people on where to go out. Just want to hit where it will be the biggest/cleanest given the conditions. I'm up for traveling to Port Stanley too, which looks like it could be a little bigger (based on models) on Friday afternoon. But I'll probably crash at the motel on Friday night if I stay in the Colborne area. Hopefully there is a nice bar to enjoy a refreshing Canadian lager after a day of lake surf.
Got the wetsuits set, boards ready to go on the car, and at 3:30pm after work, kissin the wife goodbye and heading up. Hope to score some surf with whoever's out there.
