The ESA Great Lakes District's Fall Crystal Beach Surf Classic will be held tomorrow at The Palmwood Surf break.
Crystal Beach is located off of Route 3 in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada.
I want to start this contest at approximately 2 p.m. The winds are supposed to blow strong from the SW 20-30 m.p.h. with higher gusts in the afternoon. This is the wind direction that works best for surfing at The Plamwood.
We will only move this contest out of necessity and that decision will be made at the beach.
As always I am going to try my best to run this contest like an ESA contest is run on the ocean. I have to be more flexible because of the conditions and the lack of help from people who don't surf. In other words there is very little support on the beach from people who aren' competing. Not to worry about this surfers always help out.
However my point is that I am not doing any young competitor a favor by not properly preparing them with the basic format of a competion if I suspend judging from the beach with instead judging from the water by fellow surfers, or not using flags, colored rash guards, and timed heats.
We have until the end of this year to continue running contests but tomorrow the waves, wind, and water will be in the fifties or warmer.
All ESA divisions of shortboard, longboard, and bodyboard will be held for current members of the
ESA and for members who join up at the contest. The entry fee will be helping us out next Friday the 18th at the Reel Surf Fest in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Only two trophies will be given out for the youngest division and the best ride.
Competitoin points will be rewarded to the top placing competitors to help them get possible seeded into the ESA Spring Regional Surf Contest. Those with the greatest amnount of competion points get the slots from the District.
Also each competitor gets one raffle ticket for the end of the year goodie raffle.\
