Sherman Avenue North...

November 18 2005, 11:14 AM

Not sure if anyone has posted this or discussed this but Sherman Avenue North is a one way street that runs North out to Burlington Street.

To get onto Sherman Avenue you will have to turn left off of Burlington Street onto Birch Street which is a one way as well but heading South into the City.

The City Kidz Playhouse is on 177 Sherman Ave N. in Hamilton, Ontario. A google map search will bring you right in. Yes it is on a one way street in a working class neighborhood. Everyone has been really coll to us there.

From QEW go to Burlinton St.

Left onto Gage Street. You go up hill.

Right onto Barton.

Right onto Sherman Ave N. The theatre is on the left side of the street.

Easy!

Magilla,

I am sorry I did not make it on Friday. I'm not sure about you guys over there, but at our end of Lake Ontario we got hit by a blizzard. It was lonely sitting at home looking out the window at the snow flying around, and I couldn't help but feel a little pathetic, knowing what Vince drove through to get his final footage.

If you can email me a Canadian address, I will ship the goodies I have to you.

I truely hope you had a good turn out and that the night was a success!!

Jon

Call this number 905-346-4480.

Jon,
Call when it's the least expensive for you. If we are out leave your address on the phone service.

You got to get a better wetsuit. Once you have that and a leash then all you have to have is a little will power and you will be amazed. Thte first wave spash is a shocker but after that you quickly adjust and are fine.

We had a large turn out of Great Lakes surfers and almost no turn out from the community. It has dawned on me that the people that can help us most are from the surfing industry and from environmental organizations. They take millions of dollars out of the Great Lakes. They have the power and the ability to far better advance our legitimate fight than the scattered bands of surfers in the lakes. Most Great Lakes surfers are working stiffs with bills to pay and mouths to feed. However that doesn't mean that they are less worthy as surfers or deserve to be ignored when their surfing breaks are being confiscated by governement and commerce gone wild. The surf breaks in the lakes and the ocean where the waves break are vital to this planet, for surfing, and people to just enjoy the beach. The Great Lakes and oceans aren't meant to be turned into concrete bowls.

Somewhere out there we have friends that will see that The Bridge cause is no different than past and present ocean causes. Something will happpen if we make it happen. It's like surfing. You got to get to the beach and paddle for the waves.

What good do beach clean ups do when marina projects have destroyed the beach? They are worried about Asian carp, zebra muscles, Saint Lawrence shipping, gobies, and ballast water. What about all the natural beaches in the Great Lakes being turned into breakwalled marinas, condos, private homes? They are all upset about artic drilling, amazon rain forests, endangered species. As I see it The Bridge beach is an endangered species. The Fisherman's Marina Project is symbolic of a bunch of people killing entire bison hurds because it is recreational. If we see hungry people in our streets and ignore them but help feed the starving people all over the planet aren't we being hypocritical?

The next boat the surfing industry send into the Great Lakes should be about saving surfing at The Bridge in the Great Lakes. The vast profits being made are reason enough to help surfers challenge and defeat that dumb ass marina proposal that the Hamilton Port Authority has come up with.

The most well versed and knowledgeable surfer in the Great Lakes right now about the Hamilton Port Authority Fisherman's Pier Marina Farc is Canadian surfer Frank Kunkel. He attended all three of the public stake holder meetings.

Meetings 1 and 2 offered many choices of places to build this marina and the people at these meetings each time by a majority voted in a straw poll. The majority of those people wanted this marina to be built in the Burlington Bay harbor and not at The Bridge public beach on Eastport Drive.

At meeting three that Frank attended the Hamilton Port Authority said now there were only tow choices. Build the marina at The Bridge or build no marina. Welcome to gun at your head planning. Good by democracy. Hello to misinformation and manipulation.

you hit the nail on the head

November 21 2005, 10:50 AM

Magilla, you've hit the nail on the head several times now; many so called "environmental groups' are often more interested in lip service and getting attention than actually putting effort into making things better. Those types of nature nazis are just a bunch of old biddy worrywarts begging to get someone to listen to their tales of doom and gloom, but you never see them out on the front lines with a shovel and garbage bag when there is real work to be done...unless the TV camera is on. Beware the Green Gestapo, depend on ourselves as responsible and environmentally aware surfers, and we'll be fine. The Hamilton Reel Surffest was a great start, and all the media attention we've gotten lately will surely help open some eyes and galvanize the surf community. Bravo to all those who made Surffest possible, and I give my one finger salute to the groups we've supported but still left us hanging. Surfers rule, posers and politicians stink.
Sorry if this sounds aggressive, but I read that national post story about the bazillion dollar surf industry and also Magillas letters for help sent to several groups that went nowhere, and it really bugs me that people are making fortunes off the hard work and dedication of others. Let me explain; for every surf photo in the newspaper chain stores like Old Navy sell a million more surf shirts, but I don't see them thanking us for free advertising...shame on them, guys like them, and their suppliers. They should be actively promoting the sport at all levels and in all areas. Maybe I had it wrong with OTV...if I had just sold more crap to posers instead of putting so much effort into promoting the sport things would be different and I'd have a big fat wallet right now...maybe no respect, but lots of dough. Of course then I would feel like a total AH...
Thanks for allowing me to vent my speen, and I want to add that am very proud of our local surf community and all you have accomplished. Collectively you are great role models for surfers everywhere.
Dan
