I got out in Oshawa today, about 40 km E of Toronto. The waves were huge! This morning at 11 the pier was disappearing and reappearing. In the early afternoon the waves were still massive. What I thought was a fisherman fallen off the pier turned out to be a fellow surfer. I got to see him make a couple of nice rides. He must have thought I was whacked for staring at him in awe for 10 minutes as he struggled against the strong current. What he probably didn't know was that he is the first person I have ever seen surfing a lake. I caught up with him for a minute before he got in his car, he was riding a red and white striped 8 footer.
Here are some shots of today's roaring seas, all photographs by Adam Szpajda Copyright 2006.
I was in for a couple of hours and stayed toasty warm. There was a tree bodysurfing beside me in the lake today until I dragged it back to shore.
