No waves but I went for a nice paddle yesterday afternoon. It was relatively flat with 1/2 foot swell bumping me up and down. It was calm enough for me to notice that the surf area around the big hill in Oshawa is all rock/reef at the bottom. Spooked me out when I thought I was paddling over water that was 10-20ft deep to see gigantic rocks 2-3ft below me. Algae is already beginning to form in that area, it's floating all over the place above the rocky/reef area.
If you're going to be surfing in Lakeview Park, on the 3rd beach from the pier, be aware of some large cement blocks/rocks that are just deep enough to be covered, about 2 cm below the water. I smoked my knee off one of them on Sunday, I was surfing right beside them for about 1/2 hour before I noticed them.
Oshawa's a little tricky, there are sandy, rocky and reefy bottoms all within a small area. If we ever head out together I can show you what spots have what bottoms. If you're a good swimmer you should be fine in the rockier parts.
