Location: Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada
Date: June 18, 2006
Surf: 1-2ft
Water Temp: 85F
Air Temp: 100+F
Lifeguards told me the waves can get up to 6-8ft, but that they don't allow surfing. Try to convince a lifeguard to lend me her softop longboard for one ride during a concert on the beach Saturday night, but no luck. Bodysurfing on these waves (they come every 90 seconds) is quite a blast, trying to see how far you can take one in before you get scraped by the concrete sidewalk at the base of the beach. Worth the extra cash to stay here for this attraction alone.
The wave approaches...

begins to curl....

waiting...

takeoff position...

holding prone position...

ahhh Coronas and bodsurfing in the desert with cute lifeguards to keep you in line.

Re: Mandalay Bay Wave Pool

We have a bigger wave pool than that one here in Hamilton. It's called Wild Waterworks. I've tried asking them to allow a boogieboarding or even a surfing day back in high school (an idea from the movie Northshore) but they just thought I was a punk. Maybe this year I can go back and try to convince them, showing them how much our little surfing community has grown.

Cheers

That wave is better than we have had around here in the last week.

Thursday in Lake Erie it should be higher and we won't need a wave machine.

Ryan you are surfing and searching all over. Thanks again for the latest photo essay of you travels.

Brian keep pushing the wave pool people. Ask them if they would be willing to have an ESA surf contest at their facility.
