Did the drive to erie yesterday in hope of finding building waves in the afternoon. the only waves were in the but cheeks of the overweight woman wearing a thong at pleasant beach. Went back today, different story, 3.5'and bigger a little too windy and a nasty cross current but the water was warm. My question is where was everyone? I expected to see more surfers out. Two guys at pleasant and one at wyldewood.

Pleasant

July 3 2006, 10:26 AM

What time were you there?

We surfed Pleasant from 9am-1pm. At one point I counted over a dozen surfers. We took a lunch break at Moe's (awesome wings, by the way), and came back to a smaller crowd, but much bigger waves. We then surfed from 3-5pm. Bill/Vlad, good to see you guys again. You were right about the red hut. I was lining it up all afternoon, thanks!

Magilla, good to meet you in person. Thanks for the mag.

Nice to have a warm, summer day w/ surf on the lakes. See you guys out there again soon!
BUCK.

Your welcome Darin.

Wish I could have stayed longer but work beckoned. I looked so sun burned that my partner thought I was having a stroke. The burn was mild and I'm mostly red. It was worth it because the head high stuff was out of sight.

Heights:

July 3 2006, 11:55 AM

At the time I got out the waves were reading on the buoy at 6.9 feet. I missed six p.m when the waves hit 7.2. feet and the wind subsided.

It seamed higher in height in the late afternoon.

later

July 3 2006, 12:05 PM

I was there from 5 till 8 pm at times the waves were huge but the current was exhausting. I made the mistake of getting in the sea weed at pleasant and had about 500 lbs of it on my leash. I guess everyone was already done. I have some video I'll post it later.

Re: Pleasant

July 3 2006, 1:31 PM

Area 51 was on fire from about noon onward. Vlad and I got there at around 8:30 and it was pretty good. It then got really windy from about 10:30 to 12:00. At noon-12:30 the first signs of real sets appeared and just kept building. Nice steep walls lining up right. Sunny and the water was warm. Dreamy day in the afternoon if you were lining up in the right spot.

Magilla, I tried to turn out behind you, on the high side, on that wave you didn't see me riding on already. The wave sectioned out and took the front of my board to the back of your knees and took you out, sorry about that. You said something but I didn't hear you. Maybe it was sorry for dropping in on you but I couldn't tell.

Cheers

Very Pleasant indeed...

July 3 2006, 2:08 PM

Made the drive up from T.O. to Pleasant beach with the Mrs. yesterday. There from about 1:30 to 6:00.Nice waves(3'-5'),and a beautifull day.Warm water & blue sky's.
Saw quite a few people surfing closer down to
the Point Abino end,but stayed about half way between Pleasant and the point for extra elbow room.Good choice as I suck even worse than I remember.Price you pay for mind surfing more than ACTUALLY surfing, you become a legend in your own mind (LOL!).Sweet to get wet anyway, and did manage to snag a few.Sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to more of you,but I barely got out of the water.(Wife calls herself a "Surf Widow"..lol).
Hope you all had as much fun as me(or more),catch you's for a cold one next time.....~Aloha...eh!~

what a day to say the least....

just like everyone else i got so burned that i've been putting cold beer cans on my face since yesterday afternoon to ease the heat.... I came out of the water exhausted and driving back was a battle trying to stay awake.

Right around 12pm it cleaned up a bit and some bit sets rolled in.... warm water, sunny & hot and a couple of latinos in the line up... it kind of felt like mexico amigos! good to see Al, buck, rafael, henry & everyone else..

vlad

bill, thanks for the surfer's journal (what a friend.. )

Sorry I missed it guys. Not going to tell the family I'm going surfing when I have been gone all week. Up in cottage country the winds were howeling so I knew you guys were scoring. Hopefully I'll be out on the next swell.

Great Day

July 3 2006, 9:57 PM

Great to see everyone out. For sure one of those days we'll be talkn about in future conversations. Felt kinda weird to be back at pleasant without a 6mil, and and seeing people "parked" on the beach.

Bill - you were on it bro - red hut was the spot!

Moe's Wings Rock!

Bill I was finished witht that ride.

I said something like, "it's nothing." The board might have banged my right knee. I have this curious mark there that I thought was a gobi bite mark. Now I have lost those bragging rights. My story has to be ditched into the circular file of Great Lakes surfing mythologies.

Aren't the gobi's the invasive vampire fish of the lakes?

We live to surf another day.

The beach was as clean as I've seen it in years. I want to put that image into my memory storage and carry it through the rest of the summer.
