Lucy is a seal in the Niagara Falls aquarium.

All the seals and sea lions in the Niagara Falls, U.S. Aquarium are rescued animals that were injured or sick in the ocean. These animals will live longer in captivity than in the wild probably because of the man in the gray suit. Seals and sea lions are the diet of polar bears and sharks. Green sharks that swim in the Saint Lawrence River eat caribou.

What pleases me about the Niagara Falls aquarium is that they take the sick and maimed animals rather than actively go out and capture animals for living display showing. I will never go to Marine Land in Niagara Falls, Canada because the Baluga whales there were captured and survive in concrete pools with too much sunlight.

Taking this up a notch more positive. Hey Carl Adams congratulations and to Liberty.

This is probably the only place that I could get close to a seal.

In the wild seals will move away from humans except in the Galapagos Islands off of Equador. A surfer wants dolphins instead of seals around them when they are in the water.

I recently saw a news story about rescue dogs in Italy being used on the ocean to save people. A shark can sense dog urine in a billionth of water. People who swim with their dogs in the ocean have a higher incidence of shark attacks. This disjointed written thought comes from me looking upon seals like dogs. As a surfer I don't ever want to be surfing with dogs or seals. I liken it to walking with food wrapped around my neck in the Rocky Mountains where grizzly bears and mountian lions live.

In the photograph with the seal named Lucy I was briefed by an animal trainer before hand of what to expect. Seals have sharp teeth that easily could shred any one of us. Seals remind me of dogs. You got to respect seals and dogs. Lucy has some training. She has been exposed to years of human care. Also Swimming in the pool with her was a blind sea lion. I can relate.

The most dangerous animals in the Great Lakes are humans who want to dump waste into the fresh water and spoil it and make it unfit to drink or surf in.
