The British ship "HMS Ontario" sunk in a November 1780 gale in Lake Ontario was discovered two weeks ago. The British crew, British citizens, U.S. captives, four Native Americans and one civilian were lost in high seas in this storm. The only thing that was found before this huge historical discovery were blankets and hats that washed up on shore not far from Fort Niagara.

This wreak is another testament to Great Lakes storms and waves. A Gordon Lightfoot song is appropriate as well as respect to those who were long ago lost when North America was a forested wilderness across the Great Lakes.
