Last night about twenty minutes before Gordon Lightfoot went onstage I dropped off backstage an enscribed copy of the second edition of "Surfing The Great Lakes." On the page where it says," 1976: Gordon Lightfoot's 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' immortalizes Great Lakes waves in song" I inserted a Wyldwood Surf Club surf club sticker.
Lightfoot has aged and his voice has become frail. His guitar playing was matchless and flawless. We could not stop cheering for a music icon from Canada who has been brought down in strength by his health. Sometimes where we sat in the theatre we cound't here his beautiful lyrics and this made me feel more supportive of him. Throughout the concert women would shout "Gordon we love you." His band was tight and played like a finished recording.

Before he played "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" he spoke about how the Fitz was almost too wide to get through the Soo canal and too wide to fit through the Welland Canal. He finished off his intro to the song by saying the ship came down to Lake Erie and then he went into playing the tune for us.
I think the writer today in the Buffalo News did Gordon Lightfoot more justice than I'm doing here. However I will say that some of the songs had their old punch and different symbolism from the mouth of an older, experienced performer after generations of pleasing people with his wonderful and exception songs.

Thank You Gordon for the songs about the Great Lakes and the waves.
