This is an excellent hurricane tracking tool from WIVB-TV Channal 4 Weather Buffalo, N.Y. It provides a very comprehensive view for tracking hurricanes. As you can see Ike is predicted at ths moment to head toward the Great Lakes.

IKE Track

September 11 2008, 10:39 PM

The Track is looking good for possible surf up there. The big question is: Will you be riding it brother?

Nice 9/11 tribute Magilla. I will never forget where I was, nor will I foget surfing the tropical waves after work that day and watching the trail of smoke drift off towards the SE over the horizon as the lines came in, for the next 3 days. Nor will I forget taking the Seastreak ferry 4 days earlier up to Yankee stadium with my Dad to catch a game, and being in awe as we passed the towers up the East River, not knowing they wouldn't be there within a few days. Nor will I forget one of my former 2nd grade students, who lost his Dad that morning, leaving behind 2 sons to be raised by their now single mother.

Yes I wanted to run home and catch all the footage and updates on the news that afternoon of the 11th, but I knew there were surfers who took off that day who would have probably been in the WTC area had they gone to work.

God, and the Surf Gods work in mysterious ways!

WE are bombarded by News, Breaking News, Developing News, all kinds of news that wouldn't have been news a few years ago. Who cares about Kanye West getting arrested in an airport.....that's not breaking news? I hate to say this, but society is becoming more and more de-sensitized to events like this than say when Pearl Harbor happened. News, equals ratings for networks. It's almost better to just keep the TV or Internet OFF it seems. Sorry, my 2 cents.

Anyway, hope you score some surf up there!

Ryan

We are way over due for Fall surf here.

September 11 2008, 11:33 PM

Kinda stuck in a health rut at the moment. Was PET tubed again Wed. Woooo Hoooo! I've been mostly laying low and trying to mend.

Yes there were surfers who died on 911. May they Rest in Peace and there are surfers in combat and in the military and my they all come home alive and unharmed. We haven't forgotten them. Respect if your reading this. 911 was the Pearl Harbor of this time. We must never forget that there are those who want us to live in a theocracy without a constitution that guarantees live, liberty, and the pursuit of waves.

Back to surfing and how I love this new tracking site. Everyone here is watching what this storm is going to do if it loops this way. Looks like Galveston/Houston are down range for some heavy weather. It's all very low to the sea there. There will be flooding and the gas prices will being going up again.

Good to hear from you again brotha.

The storm surge possible will be twenty feet high on shore.

September 12 2008, 11:28 PM

Ike is predicted to have twenty foot surge. 20 foot surge is higher than two story buildings. There are people that have not evacuated along the shoreline. Say some prayers for them tonight. This is a huge storm the size of the state of Texas.

Monday the storm transits through here. There will be basement flooding, heavy rainfall, and maybe trees brought down and possible surf.

What a time to be sick! Argggg Rzzzzzzz RrArffffffffff

Heavy gusts of wind at 2300 hours in Buffalo.

September 15 2008, 12:05 AM

The front and Ike is at the door.

We have partial loss of electricity. It doesn't appear to be a fuse but one of the lines on the pole coming into the house. I just lost WKBW Channal 7 coming into the house via rabbit ears. Their television transmission is being interrupted. Now it's back after typing the previous two sentences.

3,962 presently without power here in WNY presently. Trees falling.

The air is hot and humid in Buffalo right now that is being pushed up here form the Gulf.

Gusts predicted from Dunkirk to Long Point 60-70 mph. Dunkirk just hit SW 49.

Gusts predicted near Buffalo up to 50 mph.

Winds cutting down in morning.

Rain heavy from Ike north of Erie and Ontario shores.

Lake Erie 70 degrees. Should I wear me six mil?

See you at the beach with camera in hand for ESM and Surfing Magazine.

If I was not so sick I'd paddle out. I giant paramecium has made me it's host. The creature came out of the computer screen and is now transiting through my circulatory system. It makes me feel ornery and combative as long as I'm far away from the beach or on a web site. The Gods are making life cyber perfunctory. Figure it for yourself or read a good book like the Iliad. Eddy did go.

Paramecium Warning:

An epic day of wave riding.

September 15 2008, 11:32 PM

Shining stars came and shone themselves over the Lake Erie dawn
the waves below them reached for the sky
a compelling Harvest moon pays them tribute
to their illuminating period of time
that warms the heart with wonderment and joy
to live, to see, to be one on a wave

The best height yesterday

September 15 2008, 11:44 PM

9.8 feet at 0100 hours on Lunes morning.

Surfers in these parts of the firmament have their shine on tonight.

Too bad the batteries went dead two shots into trying to capture an amazing day.

I loved early this morning the local television presonality talking about being down at the Erie Canal breakwall and seeing Lake Erie and the Niagara river flowing over the wall that was submerged below the seiche (water rise/displacement).

I loved hearing Furminger telling me that the sand bars were back.

I loved seeing the clean sand without a footprint on it, without algea, or a stone, or a zebra muscle. The beach was pure pulverized sand beaten against breakwalls in gale force winds created by a storm called Ike.

Word of the day:

Perfect

Defiant word of the day:

Aloha
