In 2009 some of cream of the crop surfers who competed in their ESA district comps advanced into their ESA Regional finals. Now, the ESA Regional District surfers who advanced are coming together for a week of contests in Buxton, North Carolina. They will determine by their surfing who are going to be awarded status as the best, amateur, competitive surfers on the East Coast and Great Lakes. The bar has been lifted higher in this contest. The surf talent that will be paddling out in these contests on the Outer Banks is moving up the ladder in competitive surfing. Some of these young men and women will eventually have honed their competitive surfing abilities to stand in the ranks of the pros. They will advance to the world stage and become sponsored names in surf media and end up on posters hung upon young groms walls. They will set the bench mark and are the future of competitive surfing. As for the older surfers taking part in these competition many of them are ESA Directors who in between running the contest dash off to change, paddle out, and fight through some stiff competition from surfers that can school many of their generation on being more than healthy but in being extremely fit and advanced watermen and women. Many of these respected surfers in the games are East Coast Legends of renown and stature. Bobby Holland's from Virginia Beach comes first to my mind. He is our powerhouse. There are many others who fit that bill going once again at it. Competition is in these folks hearts. They keep coming back year after year and to advance or place in the top three winners circle which is something to be proud of. The surfers that are in this inner circle proved themselves within a body of some of the best surfers in this part of North America.
