Dec 13: Cutback in disclosure of toxic chemicals
WASHINGTON, DC -- "The White House pressured the Environmental Protection Agency to weaken requirements that companies annually disclose releases of toxic chemicals, congressional auditors said Wednesday. The Government Accountability Office said the changes mean that industry will have to file 22,000 fewer reports each year, reducing an important public monitoring tool on industrial emissions. The EPA rushed to complete the changes because of 'pressure' from the White House Office of Management and Budget to reduce the regulatory burdens on industry, says the study obtained by The Associated Press and later released by the GAO,'" H. Josef Hebert, Associated Press.
Magilla Schaus: The above news release is another example. The current U.S. Administration has the worst environmental protection record in the history of the United States of America. We are paying the price in loss of our health and environment. The U.S. government has allowed robber barons to exploit every evironmental law to protect us. We have media constantly distracting people with entertainment folly stories while the air, the water, and the ground gets more and more toxic. If animals are killed off en mass in the water and they are not sold at the grocery store the U.S. government says thay have no value. Even if the fish that are caught and sold eat these animals. If a wetland or a beach is destroyed or a lake is polluted the U.S. government will either ignore it or hide it. If a scientist working for the U.S. government sounds a valid alarm then that scientist is either transfered, fired, or harrassed out of office.
Just such things about the White House pressuring government agencies designed to protect the public and the environment are all documented in the book, "Crimes Against Nature. How George W. Bush & His Corporate Pals Are Plundering the Country & Hijacking Our Democracy by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr."
