The Great Lakes holds vast amounts of fresh water. It has an environment that is unraveling for the sake of careless profit making. The zebra mussel is an invasive species that came to the Great Lakes in ship ballast. Habitats and food sources for indigenous fish are disappearing because of zebra mussel expansion. Millions of tax dollars now must be spent to ensure that zebra mussels don't clog up the pipes from which we get our fresh water. Here is proof of the extent of that problem.
