About: The History of Rock 'N' Roll: (#009) Punk
Johnny Rotten and his band The Sex Pistols were the poster boys for
punk, a new, aggressive, harsh form of rock 'n' roll. The scene grew
quickly, from New York City where the Talking Heads and Blondie took
irony and attitude to new levels of detachment, to London, where
roving bands of unemployed youth gave their chosen musical icons an
air of genuine menace. In these same years, the genre known as "heavy
metal" also became a staple part of the international pop music scene,
with bands like Van Halen, Def Leppard, Judas Priest, and Metallica.
Songs featured include: The Sex Pistols' "Anarchy in the UK," Iggy
Pop's "Passenger," The Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane," and The
Pretenders' "Message of Love."
Yanks can get this, not sure about others.
