Please, read the article above, before reading my answer.

My comments:

"Greece objects to the Macedonian claims to the legacy of Alexander the Great, but Macedonia does not object to corresponding Greek claims."

This is a LIE. Because if a country is named Macedonia then it monopolizes the name and the legacy and identity of Macedonians by definition. Greeks have no serious problems when any people around are rhetorically claiming parts of Greece's legacy. But not more. Greeks cannot allow any non-Greek people around monopolizing the names and fame of Greek history.
So, it is FYROM that objects IN FACT Greece's claims on Macedonian fame and glory.

"Greece is bothered not just by the name, but what the name represents—an independent ethnic Macedonian identity"

In fact Greece has no problem with any minority of the country. But, the so called Macedonian minority asks to read, write, teach a and learn Macedonian. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT GREECE GRANTS THEM!. You see, within Greece, within History, within Truth, Macedonian was and is a GREEK dialect, spoken by Macedonians who have apparently always been Greeks. This name cannot change, at least within Greece and Truth's World.

We have no problem with SlavoSkopian identity. We do have serious problems with the name they will. Sorry, we cannot allow any non Greek people monopolizing any Greek tribe's name, esp famous' ones.

For Macedonians, the nexus to Alexander is not linear, but based on geography,

Let them make it clear: Gornomacedonia, Skopskomacedonia, Severmacedonia, Velikmacedonia, ... I mean, which people wouldn't have an accurate name in their own language?
After all they are not the ONLY geographic Macedonians. (SlavoSkopians are Macedonian nothing, right?)

Solun or Thessaloniki?
