I think that this was a picture of a workaholic, and a man who loved his job more than his wife (or at least spent his time as though that were his reality). I saw Frasier and Bullock's characters as two examples of white privilege, lust for money and prestige, and how unhappy it has made them. Maybe he was having an affair with his assistant, maybe he wasn't -- but I didn't see that as the issue.
