can be converted from one version to the other. I think they learned their lesson years ago, about permanently altering molds to provide another version. Somebody always wants the older version that is no longer available. They have reissued both D and J versions more than once since the first one was made back in the mid 70s. And they will keep re-issuing them every few years, until the molds wear out.

People love to pass this rumor around so that they can sell their kit for more money.
