The full option RC kits have gone down in price in the decade since they were first released. I won (in a random online drawaing), the Tiger 1 full RC kit back in Dec 01. When it originally came out, it was a $1,000.00 kit (MSRP), but the shipping invoice was like $750 w/free shipping.
Today on eBay, you can probably find a full RC Tamiya kit for less than $700. Buying all the bits and pieces separately will probably cost you more than that, even if you could find them all.
My biggest expense on the Tiger I won was the 4-channel RC controller. I believe it was around $250.
I did make the mistake of buying the Aber super detail PE set then realizing that all that PE on an RC tank would get wasted the first time it struck an object while in motion. Fortunately, someone was looking for the PE set and traded a non-RC Tamiya 1/16th scale Tiger II for it.
Haven't gotten around to doing anything with either kit yet.
