I can't say if you are being ripped off or not

Value is in the eye of the beholder.

After checking a currency convertor, this price is actually cheaper than the USA MSRP. I know if I wanted it, I could do much better than this price. My LHS has (had?) it for around $225 USD ($282 AUD). I just don't want it.

Give me a well done Hetzer, something small with cool paint schemes, I might consider it.

Dave

Not really

Remember this is the 1/16 kit, not the 1/35 one.

$339 AUD works out to be about $270 USD. In the US the MSRP of that kit is around $290 USD.

Its not cheap and definitely shopping around helps.

Cripes!

July 5 2009, 8:27 PM

I knew it was 1/16, but i didn't think it would retail for that much... i s'pose a 1/16 tiger 1 can sometimes b seen for around $5-600 AUD! is it a good kit worth that much (The M16, i mean)?

i would pay a fair bit for a good kit, so any reccomendations on this kit?

thanks, Lachie

It gets mixed reviews

I do not have the kit, but have looked in the box. There are a lot of online reviews and comments. The Perth Military Modelling site review is good.

For its size it is somewhat simplified. I think perhaps there is a motorized version somewhere? the chassis is die cast and a lot of the kit screws together. The model seems to be based on a restored vehicle as it has modern semi-truck style wing mirrors and other civilian/non standard/non wartime details. Probably not a "bad" kit but not as good as their T-34/85 either.

For what its worth the big 1/16 Trumpeter King Tiger seems ok on the outside but the interior is poor with the engine compartment being that of a Panther tank!?!

The King Tiger kit...

The outside is good - perfectly in scale AFAIK. The inside is a mixed bag. About 95% of the parts are there, but some are misshapen - e.g. the ammo racks that stick out and (I'm told) prevent the turret rotating. Another nasty is the turret gear teeth ring molded into the hull top; it should stay with the turret when you lift it off.
