I managed to get my hands on the 1/35 scale at a very good price and all parts are there...which was the first thing that I checked.

What I am looking for now are a few items to help enhance the models look...such as etched skirts, but I'm also looking for a replacement aluminum barrel. Does anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks,

Doug

I'm making this kit at the moment, as a review build for

SMMI. The basic kit being so inaccurate, I don't think there's any aftermarket for it. You could easily replace the side skirts with plastic or brasss sheet, with thin wire camo attachment points. OTOH, the kit items aren't too bad.

As for the gun tube, again, the kit item isn't too bad, mostly because most of it is coveed with the thermal blanket. Careful painting should disguise such limitations as it has. You could also try asking Accurate Armour if they'll sell you the gun tube alone from their Chieftain Mk.5 - Mk.9 accurization set.

The in-box review is already written. The model is a week -10 days off completion - review should be in next month's, or more likely October's issue.

Just off to mask the green bits of the gun tube, prior to spraying the thermal blanket in khaki/ tan.

Cheers,

Chris.

Eduard/Accurate Armour

Eduard offers a photoetch set for it. You won't find an aluminum barrel, as the real vehicle had a fabric thermal blanket surrounding it. I believe Accurate Armour in the UK offered a replacement resin barrel (though the Eduard set does include replacement straps for the barrel sleeve). AA also did resin update sets for the later style crew compartment NBC system and the Stillbrew applique armor package and Clansman radio antenna mounts. No aftermarket tracks I'm aware of.

Robert Lockie complied a very impressive tweaks list to correct and update the 1/35th scale Tamiya Chieftain kit.
