Gentleman.
I have some questions and I think this is the right spot to as them.
Tamiya Churchill kit. Did it ever come in different configuration than current Mk VII and Mk. VII Crocodile ? And just to be sure, the Mk. VII has all welded hull, yes ?
Tamiya Cromwell kit. I seem to remember some critical comments about the hull. Cromwell had 4 basic hull configurations, which one is the one in Tamiya kit, and is it correct ? Basically, can I build it out of the box and still be OK ?
as the Chruchill Mk VII, it has extra Brit tanker figures and a civilian w/cart and the Chruchill with Croc...even with the new AFV Club Chruchill out the old Tamiya kit is a fun build . the Cromwell, not sure of your question but I've built 2 of the kits and it's real nice kit, the only thing I added was a metal gun tube. Mike
Tamiya's kit was based on the one preserved at Bovington, one of the few Cromwell Mk IV's that was not upgraded from the Type C hull to the Type D, which had a different arrangement of hatches on the engine deck to simplify maintenance. Since this upgrade was a drop fit of a new engine deck onto existing vehicles, nearly all Cromwells got the new parts before the Normandy invasion. Accurate Armour in the UK offers an updated resin engine deck to convert it to a combat vehicle. They also offer other useful bits, like the all round vision cupola which replaced the two-periscope version depicted by Tamiya, as well as more elaborate updates to depict the Type F hull, the turret stowage boxes and the wider, 15-inch tracks seen on most Mk VII's.
