I need to make some grill covers for Tamiya's 1/48 Tiger I. What would be a good material to use?

Unless you are dead set on building these just to.....

do them yourself, Hauler makes an excellent set of Tiger I grill screens (HLX48008) for only $6.30. If you want to fabricate these yourself, you'll need some very fine model screen and some brass strip to make the frames. You can use CA adhesive to stick the frames to the screens, but soldering would be much stronger.

I figured it would be...

easier to make them because the local Hobby Lobby seems to have the rule, if they want it, we don't carry it. The hobby shop I order from is more than 5 hours away from where I'm going to college, making it harder to order stuff. I might be able to find that stuff at Hobby Lobby but do you know what I could use as a back-up?

and get the set Bruce suggested. It's US$3.69 with free postage. How can you beat that?

Reinventing the wheel

If you wanted to try to make some yourself, you would want to get some photo-etch screen and then make the border frame from thin sheet plastic or scrap photo etch fret. In that scale... I would just buy some IMHO.

Lucky is good to order from and you get free shipping on etch. One thing to watch is to make sure the item is IN STOCK and not just AVAILABLE. AVAILABLE means the item has been released and is "available" but they don't have it. In stock means its on hand and you can order it and they will ship it right away.
