Tamiya's new M51 looks to be much better than Dragon's which is poor.
Dragon's kit while in their "Premium" series is still just their 15 year old dog with some new tracks and photo etch. The hull contours on the front are very poor and obviously incorrect if you compare the kit parts to the real tank. Plus the kit does not represent any one particular version/vintage M51 so no matter what tank you want to model you have to fix something. The gun muzzle is also poor.
While Tamiya's kit is not on the market yet (i think its a December release though), it looks to be much more accurate in the fundamental areas than the Dragon kit. If you wanted to jazz up the suspension on the Tamiya offering I would suggest the Tasca HVSS set.
Dragon did upgrade the suspension in their M51 but it has the wholly inaccurate hull and gun, and pretty poor turret. Even Academy's kit is actually better than the old Dragon one. I suppose since Lucky has the Tamiya kit listed at $39 if you have to pay for a kit I wouldn't pay a lot on the doggy Dragon one.
