The 1945 Buchanan was a limited edition release. It was released as part of the IPMS Nats in VaBeach/Dragon Expo show. Some were available direct from Dragon's online store. I don't believe that many made it to Dragon's wholesale distributors and from there to LHS.
The kit came with an additional sprue for the newer aft superstructure/gun layout. The crew figures were different, including a McArthur figure and some officers in khakis (no battle gear). There is also an additional instruction insert with different construction & painting instrucions. The '45 Buchanan was in Ms21 -- Overall Navy Blue.
The Buchanan carried McArthur to the Missouri for the Japanese surrender cermonies, hence the reason for the McArthur figure.
I'd like to see Dragon release a package of aftermarket figures like they have done for aircraft
